Beads are the most common items found in archeological digs around the world. They are, with the exception of tools, some of the oldest manmade items in existence.

Archaeologists interpret early man's use of beads as the first evidence of the use of symbolism, which indicates the beginning of complex thought processes. Part of the appeal of beads is the idea that all beads have a connection with the first bead. We know that beading, whatever the process, is soothing to one's soul. The rhythmic, repetitive handling of beads connects us to those who have done this before.

Maybe that's why bead lovers feel so strongly about their craft and their beads.
